Finding other musicians shouldn’t be difficult. Whether you’re looking for a bass player, hoping to join a band, or simply fancy getting together for a jam, making that first connection ought to be straightforward.
But it isn’t always.
There are plenty of talented musicians out there, yet finding the right people locally can be surprisingly frustrating. Adverts can be scattered across different websites and social media groups, searching by location isn’t always particularly helpful, and sometimes it’s difficult to tell whether an opportunity is still available.
I wanted to create something a little different.
Up For A Jam was born from a simple idea: make it easier for musicians to find musicians.
I’ve spent many years involved in music, playing in bands, writing songs and working in radio and music production. I know how rewarding it can be to get together with other musicians, whether you’re playing to an audience or simply making music for the enjoyment of it.
I also know that life moves on. Bands break up, people relocate, careers and families take priority, and sometimes the guitar or bass spends a few more years in its case than originally intended.
But the enthusiasm for music doesn’t necessarily disappear.
Up For A Jam is particularly inspired by those musicians who’ve been around the block a few times. People with years of experience, people returning to playing after a break, and people who still have the desire to make music but don’t necessarily know anyone locally.
That said, everyone is welcome. Whatever your age, ability, instrument or musical taste, there’s room for you here.
One of the things I wanted to improve was the way musicians find each other geographically.
Being in the same county doesn’t necessarily mean you’re close enough to rehearse together every week. Finding someone within a sensible travelling distance is far more useful.
That’s why Up For A Jam is being built around local searching, helping musicians discover opportunities in nearby towns and surrounding areas.
The aim is to keep things simple. Post an advert if you’re looking for a musician, advertise yourself if you’re available, or browse what’s happening locally.
No unnecessary complications. Just opportunities to make music.
Not everyone wants to play three gigs a week or rehearse every Tuesday night.
Some musicians want to form a serious working band. Others would be perfectly happy meeting up occasionally to play a few favourite songs, try something new or enjoy making music with like-minded people.
Both are equally welcome.
Whether you’re a seasoned player, a weekend enthusiast or someone rediscovering an old passion, Up For A Jam is about bringing people together through music.
Then you’re in the right place.
Find local musicians. Have a jam. Start a band. Play some gigs.
Whatever your musical ambitions, it all starts with making a connection.
Welcome to Up For A Jam.
